Question: Discuss about the Article for Fire Incident and Data Organization. Answer: Purpose The purpose of this proposal is to request an approval of the acquisition of new trucks for the fire department. The truck which I have selected is suitable as per our requirements and as per the emergency service we provide. Its the sole purpose of the proposal is the getting authoritys attention towards our concern and equips the firefighters with the best quality and required truck. The fire department of the city requires a more efficient, powerful and technologically advanced truck so that fireman could easily deal with any fire accident. Facts The Fire department of the city works round the clock to ensure the safety o the citizens and properties against any kind of fire. This is a vast service to do and also comes into one of the emergency services. At any moment the firefighters have to rush to the location where theyll have to give emergency fire protection service. According to a report published by the National Fire Protection association, the total cost due to the fire in the united stated is about $329 billion which is estimated to roughly 2.1 % of the US GDP (Hall, 2014). As the number of fire incidents in the year 2014 has dropped by 29% but still a dangerous event in the US. This is structures fires, a nonhome structure fire and also fire in vehicles. All these cases are considered as the main events. As per the report, the structure fires constitutes of 38 % of total fire events whereas the Outside and other fires stand at 49%. The fire due the highway vehicles stands for about 13 % (Haynes, 2015). The fire department has to be well equipped and well planned for taking care of these events and providing instant relief to the population. The deciding factor in these cases is the time required to reach the event place. In US fire service there are about 1,134,400 firefighters in which about 68 % are volunteers who reside in small and middle towns and provides assistance to the public. In the year 2014 63,350 firefighters injured due to the fire in fire services (John, 1981). This provides early warning to the peoples so that they can become aware of the fire. The fire department uses different types of equipment which generally constitutes of fire extinguishers and water cannons which are fixed in different fire trucks. The trucks are the tool which generally used by the firefighters to reach to the event place with all the equipment and fire fighting tools. The trucks which were extensively used by the fire departments have different dimensions and mostly used for fire relief services. Apart from that according to the National Fire protection association the fire department is responsible for the fire safety related works as well as the ambulance service for the victims. This all requires quick response from the associated authorities as well as well-equipped vehicles to so that it will be helpful for the victim s (John, 1981). Specification The selected truck for the fire department has the following specification, these qualities make it a must to have a vehicle. It is more rust resistant than other vehicles we are using which give it a long lasting life span. The truck has a new hybrid engine which is more fuel efficient as compared to other machines. The engine power is much better than the vehicles we are using for the fire protection purpose. The equipment which is fixed in the vehicle such as the water pump has more exhaust power. It means it will provide more water pressure so that we can cover longer areas, the nozzle pressure stands over the diameter of the pipe, the pressure by the pump system. If the pressure remains same the pump of the new truck is much powerful, so it will provide greater nozzle pressure. The truck has more water carrying capacity as well as a number of firefighters. The manufacturers of the truck are also providing medical kits and extra equipment for better fire fighting capacity. They w ill also give offers for more than one purchase of the vehicle. The specification and the qualities make it worth buying for the fire department as this will help the firefighters and the company (Alvarado, 2015). Physical/Technical Specifications The dimension of the truck: Room 24 6 ft2 Manufacturing material: Stainless Steel and Iron Gas/ Diesel efficiency: 30MPG Lifetime: 30 years and more The capacity of the truck is to hold a 100 foot 13/4 inch hand line with an automatic nozzle and capacity of carrying 4 peoples. The pump is more powerful and it also has higher torque than the pump which is installed in our present fire fighting vehicles. These technical specifications of the truck are best suitable for our working condition and emergency services. The pump capacity and the tank capacity will allow us to carry much water and reach a higher height through the greater nozzle pressure (Cappa, 2015). Training and Testing of the firefighters with the new vehicle and equipment will be conducted by the company itself. The new technology and the hybrid engine is will be operated by a newly designed system which is solely based on the new technology. A proper training about the system to the firefighters and related officials. The manufacturer company has also offered a lower price for us if the fire department buys more than one vehicle in a current fiscal year. Cost: The cost of the Truck chassis with the hybrid engine = $1, 20,000 Cost of the Pump = $5000 Equipment = Free Services = the company will provide free service for 3 years. Training and testing= The company will provide free training and testing to our firefighters, which will be based on training the firefighters to carry out the works in a more proficient way. This will save the extra cost of training and service which we will have to bear, in the previous one we had a total cost of $1, 15,000 which was about $ 10,000 less than this truck. IN the working period the present truck showed a lower work performance as expected and we have spent thousands of dollars on the services. By choosing this new truck we can get service for 3 years which will save a significant amount of the firefighting department. The training cost for the employees is about $ 200; this can be saved by providing the training which will be offered by the company. In the commercial view, we are saving a good amount of money in long term, this could be beneficial for us to project the rest sum of money in different other direction and in the improvement of the outdated technology. Timeline The timeline of the purchasing and delivery is approximately 2 months or 8 weeks. We can get a well equipped and designed vehicle for our department in this much lesser time. This can be done because the company has already manufactured trucks and after our approval and submitting the proposal they will only modify and upgrade the truck. The full timeline will consist different tasks like, contacting the manufacturer and getting informations about the truck so that we can know the specification and get authorization from the higher authorities and up gradation of the truck as our requirements. After completion of this step, the next step is the testing the truck at the company, this will be a final testing phase in the presence of the fire department officials. The paperwork related to the acquisition will be done in coming days, the final paperwork will consist different approvals and registration of the4 vehicle. After completion of this stage, the next thing to do is the transfer of the truck to the fire department office where the fighter fighters will be trained by the company executives. The last stage is the process of new fire truck approval. The whole process including the training can be finished in a timeline of 8 weeks; this all will start from 1st April and will finish till 5th of May. Timeline Benefits There are many benefits of this truck over the other vehicle we use for day to day firefighting. Some of the benefits are mentioned below; Capacity: The water carrying capacity of the tank of this truck is more than the previous one. The water carrying capacity of this truck is about 5000-5500 liters whereas the previous one has the4 capacity of 4500 liters. Chassis- The chassis of the truck is made of Steel, which makes it rust proof and the engine is 6 cylinder, 4 stroke hybrid type. Pump: The pump of the truck is more powerful than the previous one which we use currently. The pumps total output pre4ssur is about 2500 LPM at 7kg/cm3. This is better for high altitude firefighting. High-pressure Hose reel- There is two hose reel in both sides, which will allow us to facilitate operation of the high-pressure section. The hose is made of PVC and has a working pressure of 4 kg/ cm2. Cooling system- There is a cooling system attached to the machine which will be used to cool down the machine and the radiator water (Cappa, 2015). Request for approval The above-mentioned specification and qualities of the new trucks is a better option for the fire department. In this time when the effects of fire hazards are increasing day by day and the cost due to is also increasing we need more comprehensive and well-equipped truck. The increased capacity on working side can be achieved by the equipping the fire department and the firefighters with this truck. This proposal is solely based upon approval for this truck, which will allow the department to buy this truck. The higher authorities comprise of the management team and the firefighting engineer must take this issue into consideration so that the firefighting department can work effectively. I request for the approval of this proposed plan of action of the trucks as per the above-mentioned specification and higher technical qualities. Conclusion The proposal project is based on describing the features of the truck over the other available alternatives and working trucks. I have described the physical and technical specifications along with the cost associated with the truck; I have also described the timeline associated with the overall process which is about 8 weeks. In a Gant chart, this is also made in an appropriate manner so that overall process associated with the project can be easily seen to the authorities. The truck for which I am requesting for approval is a technically advances as well as well constructed one. This particular truck follows all the guidelines explained by the National Fire Protection Authority. In a commercial sense, the company also provides a good discount with the purchase of more than one vehicle with the above-mentioned price. I have also explained the benefits associated with this vehicle, which provides an edge to this truck.
